Skaneateles, N.Y. - Hop aboard, matey! Mid-Lakes Navigation has set its annual Pirate Day for Aug. 13. Joining the marauding this year is Rusty Rice, a captain for the Barbara S. Wiles. Although new to Pirate Day, he is no stranger to pirate play.
Rice was a second mate on the Continental Sloop Providence, a replica of America's first war ship, when Disney chartered the tall ship and hired its crew as extras. He appeared in "Pirates of the Caribbean: Deadman's Chest" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End."
Continuing his antics from past years, Capt. Jack (aka Rick Martinez, of Auburn), a self-described "goofy, crazy, fun-loving pirate," will defend The Judge from attack. Martinez is developing and producing a TV pilot, "The Captain Crowe Show," that uses pirates to promote literacy.
"Pirate Day is an event we look forward to all year," says Mid-Lakes co-owner Sarah Wiles. "Passengers, crewmembers, friends-we all have a ball!"
Children are invited to dress in costume and join Capt. Jack's pirate parade throughout the boat.
To enable everyone to get in on the fun, pirate mugs, bandanas, eye patches and swords will be for sale, and children will receive a free tattoo, trinket and pirate hat. A pirate menu will be available on the lunch cruise, which is sold out, and pirate drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) will be offered on all cruises.
Space remains on:
