Thomas Cole National Historic Site GroundbreakingCatskill, N.Y. - The earth moved at the Thomas Cole National Historic Site on Thursday, July 3rd, as New York State Parks Commissioner Rose Harvey joined Thomas Cole Executive Director Elizabeth Jacks and 100 other friends and dignitaries, to break ground on the reconstruction site for Cole's "New Studio."

"This is a day that many people have been thinking about and dreaming about for a long time," said Ms. Jacks.

"As one long-time volunteer said to me "I have to pinch myself. Can it really be happening?" The project really got off the ground with the bequest from the late Greene County Historian, Raymond Beecher, followed by generous stretch gifts from friends, trustees and foundations. Finally, it was the grant from New York State's Division of Tourism that made it possible for us to begin construction this year, and we feel enormously fortunate to have great people at "I Love NY" and NY State Parks who understand the positive economic impact that we are having and will continue to have on this community."
