Ply the gentle Mohawk River with a stop at The Boat House, nestled on the riverbank at Rexford. Glide directly into the Mohawk’s quiet waters by kayak, canoe or rowing shell, moving at your own pace past the riverside foliage. Kayak and canoe rentals are available. Just south of Albany, kayak miles of Hudson River and Schodack Creek shoreline at Schodack Island State Park and spot bald eagles, cerulean warblers and blue herons.

Beginner and skilled kayakers alike will enjoy a guided trip to Sleepy Hollow Sunset Tour with Hudson River Recreation. Tour places where ghosts and goblins roam free, to historic Tarrytown Lighthouse and amazing views of the palisades, Croton Point and Hook Mountain. Well-trained guides provide instruction.

In New York City, join the Downtown Boathouse in Manhattan’s Riverside Park for 20-minute instructional paddles, then paddle away on the Hudson. Kayaks and life vests are provided—you create the romance.
