Winter in the lakes region

It begins with holiday festivals and ends with maple sugaring. In between you'll find a winter season filled
with things to do. Wineries offer toasty tasting rooms. Casinos invite you to games, live performers and delicious dining. There are museums to enlighten you, theaters to entertain you, and restaurants to impress you.

Taste the world's best wines

Do you really want to visit the Finger Lakes without a winery stop? Over 100 of them ring Cayuga, Seneca, Keuka
and Canandaigua lakes, and a winter visit means a better chance to speak with owners and winemakers in the tasting rooms. Plan to visit three to five wineries in a day and choose carefully based on your tastes-whites or reds,
sweet or dry, fruit wine or ice wines. Take a winter tour at Glenora Wine Cellars or Fox Run Vineyards. Go
deeper at the New York Wine & Culinary Center where you'll learn while you sample New York's grape varietals, as well as tasty food pairings.

Resort to some luxury

Resorts love to pamper their winter guests. Plunge through body slides and pools at Greek Peak's year-round Cascades Indoor Waterpark where it's always a balmy 84 degrees, then try a massage at the Waterfalls Spa. Get the royal treatment at Geneva's Belhurst Castle,
an 1880s stone giant overlooking Seneca Lake with lavishly appointed suites that was voted "One of the Most Romantic Places in New York State." If quiet and cozy is more your speed, there are B&Bs aplenty here, like Hammondsport's historic 18 Vine Inn and Carriage House, minutes from wineries and craft breweries, fine arts and antique hunting.

Celebrate some history

Take a time trip with history tours at Clifton Springs' Foster Cottage Museum, the 1884 Howe House in Phelps, or Palmyra's Hill Cumorah.  View one of the nation's largest collections of American Western and Native American art at the Rockwell Museum of Western Art in Corning. Check out Asian, African and contemporary art at Cornell
University's Johnson Museum of Art.  Canastota's International Boxing Hall of Fame shows off relics like life-sized fist castings of Jack Dempsey, Jack Johnson
and Primo Carnera, as well as championship belts, trunks and robes from sluggers like Joe Louis, Kid Gavilan, Michael Spinks, Marvin Hagler, Sugar Ray Leonard and Rocky Graziano.

Test your luck

Hot winter gaming waits at Finger Lakes Casino and Racetrack with 1,500 winners like Penny Mania, Hot Shots, Video Poker, Mermaids, Copper Cash and Platinum Quick Hits. In the Southern Tier, Tioga Downs Casino offers live entertainment and non-stop games with in-house  progressives, video poker, and invitational tournaments for high rollers.
