You don’t ski. But you’re tagging along with friends and family on a mountain holiday. Have no fear! There’s plenty to do on New York’s mountains--no skis required. Check out these seriously awesome activities that will keep you entertained while the rest of your crew is on the slopes.

Greek Peak
Winter, spring, summer or fall - water parks are always in season. Heated to a perfect 84 degrees year-round, Cascades Indoor Waterpark at Greek Peak Mountain Resort features a whitewater wave pool, interactive play structure, water basketball pool and four rapid water slides. Swim laps in the heated Northwoods Pool or take a dip in the Hot Springs indoor-outdoor hot tubs. Nextdoor, the Starlight Arcade offers gaming for kids of all ages. If you’re seeking a ski-free mountain experience, check out Fat Bikes at the Nordic Center. These ‘fat,’ heavy-duty tires are built for high or low mountain terrain so you can cruise over snow-packed trails. Need a little TLC after that workout? Chillout or warm-up at Waterfalls Spa where massages, facials and nail services leave you feeling refreshed and energized.

 Ellicottville, NY

Holiday Valley
While everyone else is gearing up, you can start winding down at the Falling Waters Spa at Holiday Valley. Offering a variety of massages and facials, guests can indulge in body therapy while enjoying full access to the indoor/outdoor heated pool, hot tub, sauna and exercise room. After, stop by the Holiday Valley Mountain Shops for topline outerwear, technical gear and winter accessories. Interested in exploring? A quick cab to Ellicottville ($10 during peak hours) lets you stroll through the village where you’ll find artistic, cozy vibes throughout the local shops, galleries and restaurants. Located one mile from the slopes, this village is perfect for individual ventures or the whole family.

Six Flags Great Escape Indoor Waterpark

West Mountain
Living up to its name, Six Flags Great Escape Indoor Waterpark is your personal getaway from the chilly Adirondacks slopes. A short seven minute drive from West Mountain, the park hosts 38,000 square feet of swirling, curling water rides at a balmy 82 degrees. Like so many great adventures, no experience is complete without a little R&R. Check out Rejuvenations Spa Services down the road for massage therapy, nail and skin care. But if you find yourself missing the mountain scenery, head over to West Mountain’s Tube Park for a speedy shot down the snowy slopes.

 Lake Placid, NY

Whiteface Mountain
Home of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics, Lake Placid is packed with history, culture and entertainment. If you want a bird’s-eye view of the mountain, namesake village and Lake Champlain, then ride Cloudsplitter Gondola from the base to the top. Ever dream of competing in the Olympics? Get your adrenaline rush at the Olympic Bobsled Experience as you plummet down the same icy tracks as the world’s greatest racers. Feel the energy and excitement at Herb Brooks Arena, home to the 1980 “Miracle on Ice” USA vs. Soviet Union men’s hockey game. Later, experience sports action first-hand at the Olympic Jumping Complex where you can catch the Lake Placid Freestyle Nor-arms demonstrating their skills, flips and tricks this February. No jumpers? No problem. The Olympic Jumping Complex is open year-round offering 360 panoramic view of the Adirondacks High Peaks.

  Windham Mountain Adventure Park

A full-body massage, steamy shower and yoga overlooking the serene Catskill Mountains--this sounds like our kind of snow day.  Hunter Mountain Island Bar

New York is built for big adventures on the ground, in the air--anywhere. The SkyRider at New York Zipline Canopy Tours reveals the natural beauty of Hunter Mountain as you soar past forests, peaks and streams. If you want a calmer, family-friendly aerial trip then check out the Mid-Mountain Tour to experience the pristine Catskill landscape.
