A Long Road to Freedom

Let Freedom Ring, Through Praise, History and Song Panelist: Phyllis Elmore, Janice Gilyard, Terry James, Dr. Denice Sheppard. This conversation will explore the history of enslavement, emancipation, and liberation through historical reflection, lived legacy, and community dialogue. The discussion will honor the enslaved individuals and United States Colored Troops whose efforts helped carry the news of freedom to those enslaved in Galveston, Texas, including stories connected to the 20th, 26th, and 30th New York State U.S.C.T. Regiments. Through history, praise, reflection, and song, panelists will uplift these powerful legacies and voices.
