The Hudson Valley played a pivotal role in the nation’s quest for independence during the American Revolution. Throughout the region, Quaker meeting houses and local churches were transformed into military hospitals that cared for wounded soldiers of the Continental Army. Strategic forts lined the Hudson River, protecting this vital waterway from British infiltration and helping to control troop movements and supply routes. In addition, private homes and taverns were frequently used as headquarters, supply depots, and gathering places for soldiers and patriots. These sites demonstrate how deeply the war effort shaped everyday life in the Hudson Valley.
