Throughout the summer, the Cayuga Museum of History & Art will be offering walking tours of downtown Auburn through our new “Birthplace of Sound Film” walking tours. Explore the history of the Case Research Laboratory, where the Movietone sound film system (the first commercially successful process of sound on film technology) was created. Through this 2 hour walking tour of Downtown Auburn, guests will have a unique exploration of the story that is ordinarily told through tours of the Laboratory itself. The full tour spans about 1.5 miles, and will include stops along historic South Street, Genesee Street, and Fort Hill Cemetery: exploring the streets where Lab employees lived and worked, learning more about the ways the City of Auburn shaped one of the most groundbreaking inventions of the 20th Century. These tours are rain or shine (unless lightning is present) and will proceed regardless of temperature, so participants are encouraged to dress comfortably and prepare appropriately in anticipation of walking through city neighborhoods and cemetery pathways.
