Celtic Christmas Show with Cassie and Maggie MacDonald

Details

Sunday Street Concerts is excited to announce a special Celtic Christmas Show, featuring acclaimed sibling folk music duo Cassie and Maggie MacDonald, being held at The Long Island Museum.  The holiday show will take place on December 14th at 3:00 p.m. in the Gillespie Room at The Long Island Museum, located at 1200 Route 25A in Stony Brook.

Cassie and Maggie MacDonald are a sibling folk music duo from Nova Scotia -- Maggie sings lead vocals and plays piano and guitar, while Cassie sings harmony vocals and plays fiddle, and both sisters step dance. Rooted in their deep Celtic heritage, their melodies sing of truths that resonate through time while bridging the gap between tradition and innovation. With spellbinding harmonies and virtuosic instrumental prowess these sisters infuse the rich traditions of their region with a contemporary vitality, resulting in a sound that's both timeless and fresh. Their accolades include a JUNO nomination and numerous Canadian Folk Music Awards and East Coast Music Awards, underscoring their exceptional musical talents and their ability to connect with audiences across the globe. Cassie and Maggie's achievements resonate as a testament to their dedication and passion for preserving and evolving the folk traditions of Nova Scotia.

Born to a family of deep Nova Scotia roots and a rich musical history, the two have been enchanting audiences around the world with their unparalleled unity of strings, voices and fabulous percussive step dance. With over 17 combined Canadian Folk Music, East Coast Music, and Music Nova Scotia awards and nominations, Cassie and Maggie’s recent release, ‘Gold and Coal,’ is an album that bridges the traditions of their Celtic heritage with a striking modern edge.  At their performance, you can also expect songs from their 2022 seasonal album to usher in the holidays.

Sunday Street Concerts is a collaboration of WUSB’s Sunday Street Series, The Long Island Museum, and The Port Jefferson Arts Council.  The Sunday Street Series began in 2004 when Charlie Backfish, host of the long-running weekly radio program Sunday Street (Sunday mornings on WUSB 90.1 FM) began presenting concerts with many of the singer/songwriters featured on his program. Originally taking place at Stony Brook University and moving to the LIM in 2016, these outstanding concerts by musicians from all over the world have become a staple for many Long Islanders.
