Festival of South African Dance

  • Details
  • Two companies, with an ensemble of twenty dancers and musicians, bring a spectacular evening of cultural dance. The Gumboots Dance Company will perform Stimela the Musical, a tale of rural African men who travel to Johannesburg in search of a better life. The Pantsula Dance Company, established in 1992 by Sello Reuben Modiga, is considered a way of life in Johannesburg where the performances take place as street art surrounded by the hustle, bustle and noises of the city streets. Much like breakdancing, pantsula is a fast-stepping style of dance where dancers try to out-do each other on style, skill and even dress.
