Guided Tour of Lake George Battlefield Park

Lake George Battlefield Park was a key location during the 18th century's two most important North American conflicts, the French and Indian War and the American Revolution. The Lake George Battlefield Park Alliance, a not-for-profit "friends" group that supports the Park, is again hosting free guided tours of the site as part of Path Through History weekend. Participants will enjoy the magnificent splendor to be viewed near Lake George's southern shoreline as they experience the grounds where the Battle of Lake George took place (1755), fields where much of the notorious massacre occurred following the surrender of Fort William Henry (1757), the ruins of Fort George (constructed in 1759), the location of the Continental Army's largest smallpox hospital (1776), and the site of British Major Christopher Carleton's raid (1780) that resulted in the final destruction of Fort George. Additionally, poignant memorials within the Battlefield Park to Native Americans, St. Isaac Jogues, Sir William Johnson and King Hendrick, and the four unknown Provincial soldiers killed during the Battle of Lake George whose final resting place is here, will be viewed.
