  • A Long Island Maritime tradition is a Halloween Boat Burning Ceremony held in Sayville. As legend has it the Long Island Maritime Museum began this tradition in honor of the local residents and Long Islands rich maritime history. Every year a boat that has been deemed to be unsafe to sail set a-blaze in sacrifice while thousands watch from the shore enjoying an assortment festivities such as; raffles, snacks, hot apple cider, and some of the best musical entertainment to be found anywhere in the world. All of this comes free of charge for your enjoyment. Rain Date Oct. 28th
