The circa 1729 Van Alstyne Homestead and Museum, 42 Moyer Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317, will be hosting a Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 19th, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. The schedule is as follows: 1) 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. there will be guided tours of the circa 1729 Van Alstyne Homestead and Museum. 2) 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. there will be a presentation that features a local abolitionist of the era, Reverend VanAlstine, which will be presented by his direct descendant, Robert VanAlstine, from Malta, NY. 3) 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. our keynote speaker will be Montgomery County Historian Kelly Y. Farquhar. Said keynote speaker will present on the importance of the Underground Railroad in Canajoharie, NY, and it will be followed by a walking tour of the homes used by the abolitionists that aided the slaves in their quest for freedom. Light refreshments will be available. There will be a $5.00 admission fee. The Van Alstyne Homestead and Museum is an all-volunteer run organization.
