Manny Vega’s New York

Details

Bronx-born artist Manny Vega is beloved in East Harlem—his dynamic, colorful murals and mosaics are splashed across buildings and subway stations throughout the neighborhood. His work, done in a style some call “Byzantine hip-hop,” centers on significant Puerto Rican and Latinx community members. The museum’s exhibit focuses on his pieces rooted in the El Bronx, El Barrio and Bahia (Brazil) diaspora experiences, with visuals spanning from urban lore to African gods.
