Meet the Artist: Chitra Ganesh

Details

About the Program

"Nightwatchers," a two-sided drawing by internationally recognized artist Chitra Ganesh in MAG’s current exhibition, Drawing as Discovery, is a captivating enigma. With sequins and handwritten texts, the mixed-media work breaks from the traditional notion of drawing. Join Ganesh as she speaks on her work, creative process, and inspiration.

Museum admission included.

About Chitra Ganesh

Across a twenty-year practice, Chitra Ganesh’s work evolved to encompass animations, wall drawings, collages, computer generated imagery, video, and sculpture.  She often draws on Hindu and Buddhist iconography, negotiating her relationship to these images with the rise of right-wing fundamentalism in India and attempting to reconcile representations of femininity, sexuality, and power absent from the artistic and literary canons.

Ganesh's work has been widely exhibited in the United States and internationally, including solo shows at the Brooklyn Museum, the Andy Warhol Museum, Saatchi Museum (London), the Museum of Contemporary Art (Shanghai), and Indira Ghandi National Centre for Arts (New Delhi, India).
