New York, New York Exhibition

  • Details
  • This exhibition, guest curated by Constance Schwartz, the Museum's director emerita, will portray the many moods and views of the great cosmopolitan city of New York and its surrounding environments. It will show that New York City was the stage on which the transformation of America played out beginning with early Old New York, with its surging immigrant population and tenements, to the economic and historic changes that led to the city's place as the financial and art capital of the world---from its back streets and crime to glamorous skyscrapers and entertainment centers, the excitement, hustle and bustle, and the heartbeat of a great metropolis will be presented. This exhibition will not be a historical survey but rather an opportunity to show the life and environment of a city that never sleeps and changes and grows as time marches on. Artist included range from George Bellows to Stuart Davis, Reginald Marsh to Willem de Kooning and Childe Hassam to Red Grooms.
