Race & Suffrage: Mary B. Talbert


Mary Talbert was an African American suffragist and early 20th-century reformer, serving as President of the National Association of Colored Women’s Clubs and V.P. NAACP in charge of their anti-lynching campaign. Lillian Williams, associate professor and former chair of the African American Studies Department at the University of Buffalo, will describe Talbert’s life and work. Williams specializes in institutions, ethnicity, biography, and women’s history. The event is free, with a half-price gate fee for entrance to Sonnenberg Gardens starting at 1 pm.
