Schoharie Creek Aqueduct Tours

Details

On Sunday, June 18th we'll offer two free tours of the Aqueduct at Schoharie Crossing. Tours meet at the Aqueduct Boat Launch off Hartley Lane, Town of Glen at 10am and 1pm. We'll traverse along the Schoharie Creek to take a view of the Enlarged Erie Canal engineering wonder that is the Schoharie Creek Aqueduct. Along its arches, the towpath allowed for the pulling of barges across this feature from 1845 to 1916, one of the single greatest improvements during the Enlargement of the waterway. You'll learn some of our interesting canal history and just how the artificial river allowed for transformation in NY and America. Feel free to plan a picnic lunch or pick up something local to eat. We encourage you to spend more time on site to experience locks from all eras of the Erie Canal, 1820's to today!
