Everyone loves the sound of the cello – can you imagine the sound of eight at once? Several illustrious cellists from past Festivals join together for cello quartets, sextets, and octets, including Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos’ pulsating Bachianas Bralierias, a blend of Brazilian folk styles and the sound of Bach’s music. Pianist Conrad Tao and violinist Stefan Jackiw begin this pulsating program with a brand-new work by Tao and Copland’s winning Violin Sonata, and David Ying and Elinor Freer perform Stravinsky’s arrangement of Italian dances.
