Stella Prince: Horton Point's Lady Lighthouse Keeper

A woman lighthouse keeper at the turn of the 20th century was not a typical occupation. While many women lived with their husband and family at lighthouses, it was not common for a woman to carry the torch. Please join us for a virtual lecture where Mary Korpi will tell us about Stella Prince: Horton Point's Lady Lighthouse Keeper. Prince actually kept the light at Horton Point Lighthouse on Long Island for many years, but was only the lighthouse keeper of record from May 1903-1904. We hope you’ll also visit the Nautical Museum at Horton Point Lighthouse this summer where you can climb the tower and learn more about local nautical history and the lives of the lighthouse keepers. Open weekends through mid-Sept.
