"Summer in the City" showcases the Harlem Arts Alliance, Artz, Rootz & Rhythm Festival on the St. Nicholas Avenue Stage on W. 135th Street. This stage also features a "Dancing in the Street" segment which invites all attendees to get up and dance. In addition, this event offers a full day of family oriented activities including a Higher Education Fair & Expo showcasing State of New York and City of New York colleges and universities, with a special focus on Historically Black Colleges & Universities. Information on admissions, scholarships, financial aid, job placement and other support services are provided. The day also provides a wide range of entertainment including outdoor concerts and performances by well-known regional, national and international musicians, well known major artists, fashion shows. and begins the first day of the 2-Day NYC Children's Festivaland the first day of the Up Market Pavilion. The Children's Festival attracts children from throughout the greater New York area and beyond, who enjoy two exciting days of festivities including parades, live entertainment, face painting, rides, games and exhibits. Free of charge dental exams, eye exams and exhibits are specifically earmarked and provided for children. Adults are allowed entry to the Festival only if they bring a child. Hundreds of vendors exhibiting food, arts & crafts, clothing, jewelry, government and corporate exhibits are featured throughout the day. The event concludes with an evening Outdoor Film Festival in the park which provides historical films for the whole family at St. Nicholas Park.
