Symphony of the Present Moment Recent Paintings by Dan Welden

Gallery North is pleased to present Symphony of the Present Moment: Recent Paintings by Dan Welden. This will be Welden’s first solo exhibition at Gallery North. Welden is primarily known as the pioneer of alternative printmaking, yet this new exhibition will be composed entirely of mixed media paintings on canvas. Delicate lines reminiscent of paths traveled by animals or the fissures found in rock strata lead viewers across a plane of organic gestures and harmonic color that embody the artist’s awareness of the moment. Welden conducts each composition with an array of tools including brushes, pencils and sticks using experimentation, instinct, intuition and verve. He explains, “My act of painting becomes symphonic to me, resonating an excitement where there is no ego. The art finalizes when linear strokes knit the work together to become a birth of pure energy.”

Based in Sag Harbor, New York, Dan Welden has exhibited in over 100 solo exhibitions and 700 group shows worldwide. He was awarded a lifetime achievement award from the A/E Foundation in New York, a title of Professor Emeritus from Escuela de Bellas Artes in Cusco, Peru and most recently a Pollock/Krasner Foundation Grant.
