We are excited to announce the return of The Atlantic Cup to you, in Brooklyn, New York and we are inviting you to join us!
The Atlantic Cup is a hard-fought, intense double-handed, offshore race held on the eastern seaboard of the United States every other spring. The event will begin in Charleston and then make a stop in Brooklyn, New York before finishing onto Portland, Maine. The Atlantic Cup is the longest offshore race in the Western Atlantic and with three different stages; it is one of the toughest multistage sailing races around!
In addition, the Atlantic Cup provides shore-based activities for fans of all ages alongside being the most environmentally sustainable sailing race in the United States.
The Atlantic Cup arrives in Brooklyn on May 29th! Visit One 15 Marina in Brooklyn Bridge Park to see the boats as they prepare for the second leg of the race. You may even get a chance to talk to some the sailors about the race! After having a chance to speak to the sailors you may even have a favorite, who would appreciate your support in the days leading up to the start!
On June 1st, the Atlantic Cup will host kids from all over New York for an up-close look at the boats and a special meet and greet with the sailors. Our Kids Education Program gives students and teachers the opportunity to visit the boats and hear the sailor’s stories from their time on the ocean. The Kids Program also helps children learn about the environmental challenges facing the ocean and how reducing, reusing, and recycling can make a huge difference.
On Saturday, June 2nd, the start of the second leg of the Atlantic Cup will be just off the seawall in Brooklyn. Come down to One 15 Marina to see the teams off as they head north to Portland, Maine. The gun goes off at 12 pm so don’t be late!
This is event only happens every other year so it something you won’t want to miss! There will be events for every one of all ages and is the perfect way to enjoy the spring weather!
