Co-founder of The Jazz Gallery, Dale Fitzgerald was passionate about Cuba and its culture, particularly the music. Dale worked with Yosvany Terry and presented a series titled, “Jazz Cubano” in 2000. It was a weekly affair where Yovany’s quartet (with Luis Perdomo, John Benitez, and Dafnis Prieto) performed with special guests. Pedro Martinez, Bobby Carcasses, Miguel Zenon, and many other notable Cuban musicians were introduced to the New York City through this series. As a matter of fact, it was at The Jazz Gallery where Chucho Valdes first performed in NYC. For the 2020 edition of the Jazz Cubano, pianist and ECM recording artist, David Virelles, has curated a 10-concert series that will get you hip on what is happening on the Cuban music scene.
