Get into the Halloween spirit at the Chemung Valley History Museum on Saturday, October 12. Learn about Victorian mourning traditions in a new pop-up exhibit that features artifacts from the 1850s through the 1890s including jewelry made from human hair. Explore the gallery for more stories about graveyards, funerals, and memorials and search for clues to solve a puzzle. There are more activities throughout the entire museum. Learn how to trace history using maps and census records in the new History Forge exhibit. Create a fantasy carousel figure in 100 Years of Amusements in Eldridge Park. Draw constellations and make origami rocket ships in the CCHS Learning Lab. Look at 3-D photos and hunt for original furniture in Grand, Domestic and Truly Comfy. All activities are free!
