New York History Events

Some, such as the Native American Dance and Music Festival, celebrate cultures and traditions that date back hundreds of years before the founding of New York State. There's no better way to showcase New York's rich history than through our many fairs and festivals.

From Montauk Lighthouse on Long Island, to Mark Twain Country in the Finger Lakes, to Old Fort Niagara out west, historical events abound in New York State. Visit the Hudson Valley’s historic homes, see how the National Baseball Hall of Fame reflects American history through our national pastime, and explore Saratoga National Historical Park, site of the turning point of the Revolution. History comes alive at Fort Ontario’s French & Indian War Encampment, in Oswego, and Fort Ticonderoga’s 1777 Battle Reenactment.

From the bright lights of Broadway to fairytale castles in the Thousand Islands, discover treasures of art, great summertime performances and magnificent architecture. Other great events include the French Festival at Cape Vincent; Hunter Mountain’s International Celtic Festival; and Long Island’s Shinnecock Pow-Wow in the fall.

Remember to social distance and wear a mask as required by state guidelines. Call ahead and check websites and social media to make sure attractions are open and available. Advanced tickets or reservations may be required.
