Autism Nature Trail at Letchworth State Park

Details

The Autism Nature Trail at Letchworth State Park (The ANT) is a first-of-its-kind, ADA-compliant trail experience designed for people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other developmental differences. Located in one of New York State’s most scenic parks, the ANT is a one-mile loop featuring eight sensory-rich stations that support a range of needs—from quiet reflection to active play. Each station along the trail engages the senses using natural materials to encourage exploration, creativity, and skill-building for individuals of all ages and abilities. Highlights include the Sensory Station, with hands-on nature objects; Sunshine Slope, a gentle maze with cocoons and an "Alone Zone"; the Music Circle with nature-inspired instruments; and Meadow Run and Climb, where kids can balance, jump, and explore. Other stops like Curiosity Corner, Reflection Knoll, Playful Path, and Celebration Station offer opportunities for imaginative play, quiet time, and self-expression. The trail’s natural setting fosters calm, connection, and accessible outdoor fun, making it a meaningful destination for families, educators, and caregivers. Just one more reason Letchworth is known as the “Grand Canyon of the East.”
