General William Mills Mansion (Mount Morris Historical Society)

  • The Mills Mansion in Mount Morris, was built in 1836 by General William Augustus Mills. Listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. The 2018 season starts June 9th and the mansion is open Saturdays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Walk back in time and experience how a former War of 1812 Army General lived with his family. Stroll through the second floor mini-museum and catch some history on John Wesley Powell, famous for his 1869 Powell Geographic Expedition that descended into the Grand Canyon. If spooky is your thing walk up to the attic (but beware!). Any way you take it in enjoy light refreshments as you stroll through untouched history "off the grid". Located just two miles from the north entrance of the famed Letchworth State Park, the beautiful and neat gift shop has memorabilia for sale ranging from a biopic on the construction of the Mount Morris Dam to an amazing Italian Recipe cookbook that is a collaboration of local residents celebrating local heritage. Bus tours are welcome with reservations at anytime. Knowledgeable and pleasurable docents have total combined tour guide experience of over 125 years.
