Little House: by Red Cottage Inc.

The original owner of this majestic estate used to travel up to the Catskills just after turn of the century by train, and with his group, hike from the station over Slide Mountain to Grey Lodge, his dramatic, Japanese-influenced property. The same family continues to travel up to this extraordinary oasis, albeit more conventionally, and has allowed the Little House, a cabin on a meadow a short distance from the main house, to be made available for rent. This charming cabin is situated off to the side, but within view of Grey Lodge, and enjoys eye-popping views of meadows, with Slide Mountain rising up just beyond. The Little House is also steps from the headwaters of the Neversink River. And if you’re a hiker, well, you’re in luck. You can walk across the meadow to a Slide Mountain trailhead (the highest peak in The Catskills). With two bedrooms, one full bathroom and a pull-out sofa, this house sleeps four comfortably, with six maximum. It has a generous-sized living room with large stone fireplace, and small but fully-functional kitchen. You will wake to birdsong, make a fire pit out of river rocks by the creek, barbecue and connect with your fellow travelers. Little House is a truly special spot.
