Locks District Tours

Our calendar runs weekly walking tours on Saturdays from June 8th to September 28th. Departing from the lawn at the Erie Canal Discovery Center, 24 Canal Street, Lockport. Volunteer docents are ready when you arrive between 11am & 1pm. The last tour departs at 12:30. This complimentary 45 minute narrated walking tour provides visitors with a behind the scenes look at the ongoing reconstruction of Erie Canal Lock 68 as well as great insights into the history of the Erie Canal Flight of Five, its builders and the technology of creating this 19th Century engineering marvel! This historical guided tour is a unique opportunity for visitors to enjoy the history of the Erie Canal and our city. No reservations are needed, walk-ups are welcome. To arrange for a private tour (outside of our regular schedule) for your group of 10 or more call 716 349-7998. Please give us at least one week advance notice. This complimentary tour is dedicated to the initiative to preserve the Historical Heritage of Lockport's Canal District and restore our entire Flight of Five locks to the year 1842. *Did you know: when it was constructed the Erie Canal was the longest single channel canal in the world. It is still the 6th longest.
