Long Island Museum of American Art, History & Carriages

FEATURED
Details

Located on Long Island's North Shore in the heart of Stony Brook Village, the Long Island Museum is a vibrant cultural destination.  As the only Smithsonian Affiliate on Long Island, the LIM is dedicated to inspiring people of all ages with an understanding and enjoyment of American art, history and carriages as expressed through the heritage of Long Island and its diverse communities.

The museum grounds are nine acres, featuring three modern exhibition buildings and five historic structures. The Art Museum houses a permanent collection of American art and two changing exhibition galleries. The 40,000 square foot Carriage Museum is home to the finest collection of American horse-drawn transportation artifacts in the world, most on permanent exhibition. Among the five historic structures on the museum grounds are a one-room schoolhouse and a blacksmith shop, both used exclusively for school programs.

Enjoy lovely gardens, a fountain framed by historic buildings as well as beautifully crocheted trees and the LIM’s latest sculpture installation, the work of Phillip Grausman.

The Long Island Museum is open Thursday - Sunday, 12pm-5pm.
