Spiderwoman Theater's mission is to provide theater performance and theater training to address critical cultural, social and political issues in the Indigenous and women’s communities. Through our programs, we strive to create a body of work for future generations and to raise the profile of Indigenous performance in the mainstream performing arts community. Spiderwoman Theater began in 1976 as a feminist theater group. In the early 1980’s, the makeup of the group began to change until there were only Indigenous women in the group. Since that time, the focus has been on the work of Indigenous women.
