Ganondagan State Historic Site

Add to Itinerary

In the heart of the Finger Lakes, Ganondagan stands on the site of a once thriving, vibrant Seneca town. Today, it is the only interpreted national landmark east of the Mississippi dedicated to a Native American theme. At the new Seneca Art & Culture Center, approximately 300 pieces from historical artifacts through contemporary artistic and cultural contributions are featured in 15 permanent and rotating exhibits highlighting five centuries of Seneca life. A detailed scale model of the Bark Longhouse figures prominently as does the story of the Iroquois Nationals Lacrosse Team. In the Orientation Theater, enjoy the first-ever live action and animated film of the "Iroquois Creation Story.” Two classrooms, a multi-purpose auditorium and a gift shop help make this a destination of the first order for a global community, from which visitors come away understanding the Seneca people from a complete cultural, historical, and environmental perspective.
From May-October, tour a full-size replica of a 17th-century Seneca Bark Longhouse, and walk miles of self-guided trails year round with beautiful marked plaques. A Path Through History attraction.
