Manhattan Class Company

Details

MCC Theater’s mission is to provoke conversations that have never happened and otherwise never would. In 2013, MCC leadership revised its previous mission statement to better articulate what has driven the theater—and has been its distinguishing feature—since its founding in 1986. We fulfill our mission across 3 programmatic areas: annual productions of world, American and New York premiere plays that challenge commonly held ideas; literary programming that supports the development of new work that asks challenging questions; and educational programming that inspires NYC public high school students to find and use their own voices. Since its founding, MCC has grown into one of NYC’s leading Off-Broadway theater companies, distinguished as one of the nation’s few theaters to be continuously led by its founders, Artistic Directors Robert LuPone and Bernard Telsey, along with Co-Artistic Director William Cantler, who joined MCC in its first year of incorporation.
