An official Path Through History Site! The Merchant’s House Museum is New York City’s only family home preserved intact—inside and out—from the 19th century. Built in 1832, the house offers an intimate glimpse of the domestic life of a wealthy merchant family and their Irish servants during the pivotal era when the City was transformed from a colonial seaport into a thriving metropolis and the center of U.S. commerce. This elegant brick and white marble townhouse is one of the city`s finest examples of residential architecture of the period. It was home to the Tredwells lived in the house with their servants for almost 100 years. Complete with the family`s original furnishings and personal possessions, including furniture, decorative arts, photographs, and books, the house offers a rare and intimate glimpse of domestic life in New York City from 1835-1865.
