JUNIOR SAILING

What We Offer

PSS has a variety of programs for all ages and skill levels. For adults, we offer ASA-accredited courses to get sailing or to broaden your knowledge. Private lessons are also available to those who feel they will benefit from 1:1 instruction. For youth, our junior sailing programs are perfect. We also have a large fleet of Sonar 23's available for rent. We even have a winter program in the Caribbean!

Junior Sailing

Jr. Sailing is the best way for any young person to get introduced to the world of sailing. In either New Rochelle or City Island, youth will skipper small boats on their own! We have programs for those who want to learn in a more relaxed environment and those wanting to race.

Our Story

The school was founded in 2004 by Chris Nihill who started teaching sailing in 2001 with the Oyster Bay Sailing School. Chris opened the school with three older boats and the dream to pass on his passion for sailing. Today, Port Sailing owns and operates a fleet of over 30 boats. The Sonar 23 fleet is used primarily for teaching adults to sail. The Junior Sailing program uses a large fleet of Optimists, Open Bics, Lasers, Feva XLs, and c420s. Our largest boat, a Dufour Gibsea 43 named S/V Marissa, is located in St. Croix and St. Thomas to support the winter Caribbean operations. Port Sailing is a US Government contractor providing coaches and instructors for The US Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point. We are also contracted to provide youth and adult instruction for Echo Bay Yacht Club, Harlem Yacht Club, and the adult program at Horseshoe Harbor Yacht Club.
