April is Poetry Month

All Nassau County high school students

Do to the Covid-19 virus, schools were shut down during the final weeks of the submission period for the Fifth Annual Poetry Review.  We feel it's unfair to hold the judging when so many students were unable to submit there poems.

Therefore we are posting the poems of those students who were able to submit their poems prior to the shut down. Just click on the student's name to open their poem. We hope you enjoy reading these poems and look forward to next year's Sixth Annual Poetry Review.

40th  Annual  Juried  Photography  Show

 June 1 - 30, 2020

at the Freeport Memorial Library

(reception Thursday, June 11, 7-9pm)

Deadline Extended to May 1

We hope that you are safe and well in this most unsettling of times. So much has changed in the past weeks.  Know that you are not alone and the Arts Council at Freeport is here to support you any way we can.

It's important to the Arts Council at Freeport to recognize our talented local photographers through our Juried Photography Show. It's still too early to determine if circumstances will change enough by June to allow us to hold this event at the library, and we want to balance everyone's safety with doing our part in supporting artists, especially now. Therefore, we will continue on a two-prong approach.

Approach One: The library will be open and gatherings of people once again allowed. Please follow the prospectus regarding submitting your work. There are some minor changes. We've reduced the entry fee: current LIACF members will not pay a fee; non-members pay a reduced entry fee of ten dollars. Also, the submission deadline has been extended to May 1.

Approach Two: The library is closed and we're all still shut down. We will take everyone's submission and have our Juror continue with the judging. The selected photos will then be made into a video. The title of the photograph along with the photographer's credits will be included in the video. We will post the video on the Freeport Library's website, and the Art Council's website, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter accounts. Additionally, an email much like this one will be sent out with a link to the video. We are investigating ways to protect the images from being copied - more details later.

Approach Two A: When the Freeport Library does re-open, we will host the event with a reception as soon as possible, along with arranging the follow-up display at Molloy College (as we have done in the past).

We're excited about moving forward with the Juried Photography Show and supporting our local artists.

COME TO THE CABARET! SHADES OF GREY: A MUSICAL TRIBUTE TO JOEL GREY

This performance was held on Sunday, April 22, 2012.

    Congregation B'nai Israel, Freeport
Conceived, directed and performed by Bob Spiotto
Musical direction by Stephen C. Pagano
This performance was in memory of Bernard Kalban
Proceeds benefitted the Long Island Arts Council at Freeport

From his best-remembered role as the iconic Master of Ceremonies in Cabaret, both on Broadway and in the film version, to his more recent portrayal as the Wizard of Oz in Wicked, Joel Grey continues to entertain audiences of all ages. And now, continuing his own tradition of creating unique and memorable performances, Bob Spiotto takes to the boards once again, in both story and song, to educate and entertain, as he pays tribute to this legendary performer.
