Our Charter Boat
Midway is a 30' fish catching machine that is fully rigged to the max with the very latest in state-of-the-art electronics by industry leader Garmin including traditional Sonar,Panoptix live sonar,live radar , Sirius radar/weather and GPS plus we deploy Cannon downriggers. We have plenty of room onboard with deck space for up to six anglers so that everyone onboard will be able to fish comfortably. Midway is also equipped with a private head/bathroom for your convenience. We also provide shelter from the elements with our large enclosed cabin. Plus you will find we use top quality rods, reels, bait, and all tackle necessary is provided. We haven't cut any corners when it comes to keeping our fishing friends safe, dry and very happily entertained.
Our 2023 Lake Ontario Fishing Season Recap
Our season started on the last week of April. Right from the start we could tell it was going to be special. We had an awesome Brown Trout bite with adult salmon mixed in right outside our dock and it lasted for weeks. Day after day we caught lots of nice big football shaped browns. Sizes ranged from 4- 10 lbs. Many full limits of Brown Trout were pulled in by our lucky anglers. Most days we got an adult salmon or two also.
As the season marched on we experienced some the best Brown Trout and Salmon fishing for years. That will continue to be the case for years to come as the state seems to have gotten there act together on stocking after failing to correctly stock browns and salmon during COVID. Fishing in June and July was outstanding. This was one of those years where the salmon showed up in our corner of Lake Ontario and never left. The salmon fishing in late June thru early July was unbelievable awesome. The combination of loads of fish and very light fishing pressure made it almost too easy!
Of course mother nature stepped in and made daily winds scatter the fish and us for weeks. By then the salmon set into staging which means they stop feeding. We could see them but fishing was back to normal were we had to work hard but still caught fish daily thru late August. By late August more waves of feeding salmon moved in and daily catches improved. Those fish were “really angry “ as Captain Nick said. They smashed gear, broke hooks, split rings, line, you name it they broke it or took it!
We finished our season fighting those fish and the winds and conditions kept them in deep water. We never really spent much time outside the mouth of Salmon River. I knew when I pulled the boat in mid September there was a lot of Salmon left behind but it was time to move on. The fall migration into the Salmon River has proven to be unprecedented and stands to be a record season. Lake Ontario has turned the corner and has returned to be the Jewel of the Northeast. It has the best fishing for trophy Brown Trout, Lake Trout ,Steelhead and Coho and Chinook Salmon.
