(2 Days)

DAY 1

Start your transportation adventure in the village of Watkins Glen and make a slight right onto Route 414. Drive up this steep hill to the traffic light and turn right onto County Road 16. Just 2.7 miles separate you from your Thunder Road Tour at Watkins Glen International. That's right - you will drive your car on the legendary race track at WGI and have an experience you will never forget - bragging rights guaranteed!

Turn left onto County Rd 16 and follow for nearly two miles. Turn left onto CR 19 and follow for 5 miles to Route 414. Turn right onto Rt 414 and follow into Corning's Gaffer District for shopping, dinner, galleries, entertainment, and an overnight stay. Make The Corning Museum of Glass just one of many bright spots as you explore this historic riverside town.

DAY 2

Follow Denison Parkway/Rte 352 East out of Corning. Turn left onto County Rte 55/Harris Hill Rd. Continue 2 miles and turn right onto Soaring Hill Drive and the National Soaring Museum in Elmira.

Definitely stop at the overlook. The view of the Chemung Valley is gorgeous at any time, but especially in autumn. You may just see a sailplane launch over your head! If you feel inspired by the magic of motorless flight, you can take a glider plane sail at the Harris Hill Soaring Club.

Once you're back on earth, turn right onto CR 55/Harris Hill Road. Follow about 2 miles to CR 64/Big Flats Rd. Turn left onto CR 64 then make the first right onto Kahler Rd/CR 63. Merge onto I86/Rt 17 westbound towards Jamestown.

Take Exit 43 for Rt 415 towards Painted Post. Turn left onto Rte 415/Victory Highway.  Proceed 9/10 of a mile and turn right into Costa's Flying Service for an hour scenic flight over the Finger Lakes. If you think the leaves are beautiful from your car, you will be amazed at the colorful panorama from the air.

Turn right out of Costa's onto Rte 415. Turn right onto Meads Creek Road and merge onto I86 West. Follow I86 west to Exit 38 to Hammondsport. Turn right onto Rt 54/W Washington St. Turn left onto Liberty St, continuing on Rt 54. Celebrate the centennial of naval aviation at the Glenn H Curtiss Museum. This local history museum has an extensive collection of antique motorcycles and early aircraft.

After a day of soaring, end your day with your feet firmly planted on the ground. Head into Hammondsport's Village Square via 54 to 54A and at Shethar Street's Union Block Italian Bistro, enjoy seasonal, home-style dishes featuring the crops of local farmers and wineries. Finish up the night in the Grotto where you can hear live music on weekend evenings, while having a bite to eat and sipping a wide variety of local & international wines, beers, or delicious cocktails.
