Fraunces Tavern MuseumNew York, N.Y. – On Friday, April 2, 2021, Fraunces Tavern Museum will debut two new exhibitions: An American Emblem of Magnanimity and To the Beat of Their Own Drums: Regimental Flags of the American Revolution.

On display in the Adeline Moses Loeb Gallery, An American Emblem of Magnanimity examines the history of the Gadsden Flag and the role it continues to play in shaping the American identity.

Rochester, N.Y. — The Dryden Theatre will reopen to the public with a screening of Citizen Kane (Orson Welles, US 1941) on Friday, April 2, followed by Rear Window (Alfred Hitchcock, US 1954) on Saturday, April 3. All films will begin at 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 6:45 p.m.). Advance tickets for all films are required and available at eastman.org/tickets.

The Dryden Theatre has not held film screenings for more than a year, having temporarily shut its doors in January 2020 to accommodate construction of the Thomas Tischer Visitor Center and then remaining closed because of COVID-19.

Carl ReinerNational Comedy Center’s Archival and Preservation Department to be Named in Reiner’s Honor

Jamestown, NY – March 19, 2021 – The National Comedy Center, the United States’ official cultural institution dedicated to the art form of comedy, announced today that it will become the home of comedy legend Carl Reiner’s archives. The Reiner family is donating the archives to the Center, where rare creative papers, scripts and artifacts spanning Reiner’s seven-decade career in comedy as a writer, director, producer, author and performer will be preserved.

New York, N.Y. – The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum will reopen to the public on Thursday, March 25, initially with a four-day per week schedule (Thursday-Sunday, 10:00am–5:00pm), and continuing to employ enhanced health and safety measures. These measures, which are based on guidance from public health experts, include a mandatory face covering policy, enforced social distancing, capacity limits (25 percent), timed ticketing, and increased cleaning and disinfecting procedures.

ptnyAlbany, NY – Use along the Erie Canalway Trail and Champlain Canalway Trail increased in 2020, according to the 2020 Who’s on the Trail report from Parks & Trails New York (PTNY) and the New York State Canal Corporation (NYSCC). The Canalway Trail system as a whole saw an estimated 4.2 million visits in 2020, including just under four million visits to the 360-mile Erie Canalway Trail between Albany and Buffalo and approximately 288,000 visits to the 90-mile Champlain Canalway Trail between Waterford and Whitehall.

Too Much JohnsonRecovered in 2013, the film is now available digitally through the George Eastman Museum

Rochester, N.Y. (March 11, 2021)—One of the landmark projects of the George Eastman Museum’s Moving Image Department was the preservation of Orson Welles’s 1938 comedy, Too Much Johnson. The film, once thought lost, can be viewed at eastman.org/TooMuchJohnson. The digitized version of the film includes new recorded voice-over commentary by Anthony L’Abbate, preservation manager, and Caroline Yeager, associate curator, of the George Eastman Museum. The online film also includes a new musical score provided by Philip C. Carli and inspired by Paul Bowles’s score for the original Mercury Theatre stage production.

Fort Ticonderoga - NDL_SAT GrantPublic meeting to be held virtually on March 16, 2021 at 1pm

Ticonderoga, N.Y. – Fort Ticonderoga, a premiere historic and travel destination, was recently awarded a Save America’s Treasures Grant, funded by the Historic Preservation Fund and administered by the National Park Service, Department of Interior, through a competitive process.

The property was awarded $465,000 to be utilized in the restoration of the north demi-lune, a stone defensive structure connected to the fort. Originally constructed in the 18th century, the north demi-lune was used to defend Fort Ticonderoga against invaders and was part of the fort’s outer defenses that Ethan Allen and Benedict Arnold saw as they crossed Lake Champlain on their journey to capture the fort in May of 1775 securing America’s first victory in the Revolution.
