Hudson Valley, N.Y. - The Hudson Valley Jazz Festival (www.hudsonvalleyjazzfest.org) is taking place Aug. 14-17 and includes 18-20 performances, many of which are free. Performances will take place in Warwick and nearby towns in Orange County as well as Peekskill, Hastings On Hudson, Marlboro and Montgomery.

Flashdance Comes to Proctors May 6-11

Schenectady, N.Y. - Full casting has been announced for the upcoming national tour of FLASHDANCE-THE MUSICAL, the stage adaptation of the 1983 hit film that defined a generation. Joining Syndey Morton as Alex and Corey Mach as Nick are Kyra Da Costa as Kiki, Ginna Claire Mason as Gloria, Kyli Rae as Tess, Madeleine Doherty as Hannah, David R. Gordon as Jimmy, Steve Greenstein as Harry and Christian Whelan in the role of C.C.

Albany, N.Y. - A lot of people have been asking this question. To answer, USS SLATER is at Caddell Dry Dock and Repair in Staten Island. Typically, the ship is open to the public in Albany near the beginning of April. This season, after several years of fundraising, the ship has been taken to drydock for repairs to her hull.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - SPAC's popular "Rock & Run" 10K and 5K fundraiser is slated for Sunday, May 18 at the Saratoga Spa State Park. The event kicks off at 9 a.m. with a 1K Kids' Run, followed by the 5K and 10K at 9:30 a.m. Over 20 top Capital Region bands will perform along certified running routes and at the free, post-race party on SPAC's lawn. Online registration is available at spac.org. All proceeds will benefit SPAC's Vivienne Anderson program which hosts underserved children at classical performances.

Festivals and recreational events kick off the 190^th opening of the Erie Canal

Waterford, N.Y. - The Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor and the New York State Canal Corporation have teamed up to sponsor 28 events in 2014 to showcase the Canalway Corridor's nationally significant heritage and the tremendous recreational appeal of the waterway and trails today. By working together, the federal and state partners are able to provide financial assistance to more communities and expand the number of sponsored events from 20 in 2013 to 28 this year.
