Online lesson plans and videos bring the Museum up close, blogs give a deep dive into various historical topics, and an online ordering system allows for touch-free shopping of Museum-made items.

This Friday, May 1, GCV&M will offer a Curbside Pick-Up day for online pre-orders of a variety of Museum-made goods, delicious maple syrup, books, and more. The Museum’s Depot Restaurant is also offering a grilled chicken dinner with homemade garlic mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables for $14.

Landon Wade, Weedsport Elementary SchoolAuburn, NY (April 23, 2020) - The Schweinfurth Art Center didn't like having to cancel its annual "Both Ends of the Rainbow" exhibit because of COVID-19. So center staff decided to still offer the exhibit, but in a safe, social distancing way: online.

"Both Ends of the Rainbow" features art from students in grades pre-K through 12th grade, Schweinfurth members, and seniors (65 and up) who live in Cayuga County. Staff has been in touch with teachers, members, and county residents who usually participate in the exhibit to collect digital images of the artwork. These images, while not the complete exhibition, have been made into videos and posted on the art center's website.

MOMI - Live Online EventsAstoria, New York (April 22, 2020) — With the building closed due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, Museum of the Moving Image has shifted to offering remote programs, which include tutorials in media-making as part of a wider online education initiative, “View from Home” new-release films, and live conversations with filmmakers, scholars, curators, and educators on topics relating to film and media, exhibitions, and the collection.

Fort Ticonderoga logoTiconderoga, N.Y. – Fort Ticonderoga recently awarded Ally Carvel, a freshman at Gouverneur High School, in Gouverneur, New York, the 2020 Beaty Family Scholarship at Fort Ticonderoga. Carvel received the award as part of North Country History Day held at Ticonderoga on March 7, 2020.

The award, sponsored by John T. Beaty and family, covers the tuition for Carvel to attend the National History Academy in northern Virginia this summer. She won the award for an outstanding senior division entry at North Country History Day that exemplified the spirit of the National History Day program.

AmericadeLake George, N.Y. — Americade, one of motorcycling’s most popular touring rallies and a signature vacation season event for the Lake George region for nearly 40 years, will be held in 2020. Americade organizer Christian Dutcher announced today that the events, traditionally held the first full week of June, will be pushed back until the week of July 21-25, 2020.

“The health of our community and our guests is paramount, but it is our sincere hope that by late July, it will be possible to bring Americade back to Lake George as long as there are no federal, state or local regulations that would preclude it,” Dutcher said. “We will be very sensitive to public health concerns. We will conduct Americade 2020 in a manner that is respectful of the terrible ordeal this pandemic has caused.’’…
