Shaker SeedsGrant Will Support the Inaugural Permanent Collection Installation, Shaker Belief, Shaker Life, Shaker Community, in the Museum’s New Facility in Chatham, NY

Chatham, New York (April 06, 2021) – Shaker Museum, which stewards the most comprehensive collection of Shaker material culture and archives, announced today that it has been awarded a two-year grant of $230,000 from the Henry Luce Foundation. The grant is for the inaugural permanent collection installation, Shaker Belief, Shaker Life, Shaker Community, which will be presented at the launch of the museum’s new facility in downtown Chatham, NY, currently in development.

Utica, N.Y. – In the late 1800s Central New York grew eighty percent of the hops in the United States.  A number of factors brought a swift end to things about 1920, but that once great industry is striving to make a comeback. The Oneida County History Center will host Madison County Historian Matthew Urtz, who will discuss the rise and fall of the historic hop industry, and Chad Meigs, founder of The Bineyard hop farm in Cazenovia, who will share his adventures in modern hop farming on April 14, at 6:30 PM.

Collections sharing project supported by $275,000 Henry Luce Foundation grant

Saratoga Springs, NY (April 1, 2021) — The Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College announces an innovative regional collections sharing project called All Together Now, supported by a $275,000 grant from the Henry Luce Foundation.

Organized by the Tang Teaching Museum, All Together Now forges new collaborations between neighbor arts organizations to bring attention to rarely seen works. At the Tang Teaching Museum, exhibitions will feature works from the Shaker Museum and Ellsworth Kelly Studio. At partner institutions, exhibitions will show work from the Tang collection, including many recently acquired paintings, photographs and sculptures.

Rochester, N.Y., March 31, 2021—The George Eastman Museum will open a new rotation in its Collection Gallery (formerly the History of Photography Gallery) on April 2. This selection of photographs from the museum’s collection demonstrates that play is as essential a theme in the medium’s history as it is in our lives. The rotation will be on view through October 3.
