Rochester, N.Y. (April 11, 2023) —The George Eastman Museum will honor actor and filmmaker Jodie Foster with the George Eastman Award for distinguished contribution to the art of cinema on Thursday, May 25. Tickets for the benefit gala will go on sale to Eastman Museum members on April 25, and any remaining tickets will go on sale to the public on May 2. Tickets and other information for the gala and a related series of seven films at the Dryden Theatre will be available at eastman.org/eastmanaward2023.

Albany Pine Bush Discovery CommissionAlbany, NY – The Albany Pine Bush Preserve will host its annual Earth Day celebration on Saturday, April 22, 2023 from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. The public is invited to volunteer on a variety of conservation projects in the Pine Bush. Projects will take place in different parts of the preserve and all equipment will be provided. All registered participants will meet at their worksite location and receive a commemorative sticker. Please dress appropriately for the weather and outside working conditions and bring snacks and water. Space is limited. Eclipse WebsiteLake Placid, NY (April 6, 2023) – The Adirondack region of upstate New York is preparing for increased visitation leading up to and during the total solar eclipse taking place on April 8, 2024. As part of the preparation, the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism (ROOST) has developed a website that shares specific information leading up to and during the celestial event.

2024-eclipse.com features a countdown clock, background information about the eclipse, a map showcasing the path of totality, frequently asked questions, and information about events in the region. The website will be updated frequently with additional information, business materials, news, and plans for local events and activities.

Titanic at seaStaatsburg, N.Y. (3/27/23) — Staatsburgh’s owners, Ruth and Ogden Mills, had tickets to sail on the R.M.S. Titanic’s scheduled second trip. This April, to make the 111th anniversary of the Titanic’s infamous maiden voyage, Staatsburgh State Historic Site will offer two special Titanic-themed programs: their popular “Tales of the Titanic” theme tour of the mansion, and “Staatsburgh & The Titanic: Objects & Stories” presentation.

Farmingdale, NY, April 3, 2023 -- In honor of D-Day’s 79th anniversary, the American Airpower Museum’s Douglas C-47B “Skytrain” troop transport will conduct four Living History Flight Experiences on Saturday, April 29, 2023.  Dozens of Long Islanders will get a rare chance to fly in AAM’s iconic World War II C-47B, one of the few still in original military condition.  This is a one-of-a-kind immersive educational program, where Living Historians show passengers what 101st and 82nd Airborne Division Paratroopers experienced on their incredible 1,200-plane D-Day assault.  Noted WWII Living Historian Robert Scarabino, with help from his 101st Airborne Reenactors, will transport passengers back in time. …

ROOST Spring SocialLake Placid, NY (April 3, 2023) – The Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism (ROOST) is hosting its annual social event at Lake Placid Center for the Arts on April 29 from 5:00-6:30 p.m. 

Tickets can be purchased through the ROOST website for $10 in advance; or for $15 at the door. The purchase of a ROOST Social ticket entitles each attendee to 50% off Lake Placid Center for the Arts’ presentation of ANIMAL by Cirque Alfonse, beginning at 7:00 p.m. that evening.
