Eastman HouseNew exhibition series demonstrates photography's historical trajectory with objects from the museum's collection

Rochester, N.Y. - George Eastman House has dedicated its new History of Photography Gallery to rotating installations that trace photography's historical path to the present through photographs and cameras from the museum's collection. The photographs in the gallery will change approximately three times a year and the cameras once a year, continually refreshing the experience of visiting George Eastman House and offering regular opportunities to view the museum's treasures.

ERIE CANAL IN FAIRPORT BY KATHY EICHORN, 2013 CONTEST WINNER Waterford, N.Y. - Entries are being accepted through August 30, 2014 for the 9th annual Erie Canalway Photo Contest. Winning photos will be featured in the 2015 Erie Canalway calendar.

Amateur and professional photographers are invited to submit prints and digital images in four contest categories: Bridges, Buildings and Locks; Fun and Festivities; On the Water; and the Nature of the Canal.

The contest captures and shares the beauty, history, people, and distinctive character of the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor, which is comprised of the Erie, Oswego, Cayuga/Seneca, and Champlain Canals, and their historic alignments, and surrounding communities.

Finger Lakes Tourism AllianceFinger Lakes, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Tourism Alliance will hold its annual Literature Exchange Wednesday, May 21, 2014 from 10am-12pm at the Waterloo Premium Outlets at 655 State Route 318, Waterloo. The event is held outside in the parking lot; rain or shine.

The Literature Exchange is a great networking event and opportunity to make connections with local business owners and managers in the Finger Lakes. Bring your company's brochures or marketing literature to distribute.

Rock the Locks PaddlefestEnter for a Chance to Win $800 Kayak Package

Oswego, N.Y. - Paddlers of all ages and abilities have a chance to paddle the locks on the Oswego River Canal Saturday, June 21, in the Oswego "Rock the Locks" Paddlefest. The event encourages kayakers and canoeists to enjoy and appreciate the unique beauty of the historic Oswego River, followed by food and music along the canal in Oswego.

"Paddlers can choose to do the full 10.3-mile course from Fulton to Oswego, or a shorter 4.2-mile course from Minetto to Oswego," said Jake Mulcahey, Paddlefest chairman. "Paddlefest is designed to be a fun, community event. A portion of the money raised will be donated to the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau for activities that support youth and families in Oswego County."

ORDA logoWilmington, N.Y. - Work is underway to repair the Whiteface Mountain Veterans' Memorial Highway, in Wilmington, N.Y., while at the same time the eight-mile long scenic highway will open for the season, this Saturday, May 17. In Nov. 2013, New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced $12-million in state funding to repair the Highway which takes cyclists, hikers and motorists to the summit of the state's fifth highest peak.

Tupper Lake, N.Y. - The Adirondack Farm to School Initiative announces its 2nd annual Farm to School Festival, to be held at the Lake Placid High School & Olympic Oval on Friday, May 30, 2014 from 4-7 pm. From 4 pm - 6 pm the event will feature area farmers, organizations, dinner with fresh local ingredients, live music from Big Slyde, student environmental groups from the Tri-Lakes, educational booths and activities. The event concludes with a special presentation by Mark and Kristin Kimball from Essex Farm from 6-7 pm in the Lake Placid High School Auditorium.

Shows run from June 26 - August 9, 2014 in a limited 7-week engagement at Walkerspace, located at 46 Walker Street between Broadway and Church Street in New York City.

Albany, N.Y. (May 14, 2014) - Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today hosted New York State's second Tourism Summit. Building on last year's unprecedented support, the Governor announced the state's commitment of $45 million to promote statewide tourism, create jobs, and attract even more visitors to the Empire State. This 50 percent increase in state funding over the last year gives New York one of the largest state-funded tourism programs in the nation. The Governor also unveiled a new tourism advertising campaign featuring Ed Burns, Steve Buscemi, Billy Joel, Robert De Niro, Michael Strahan, Meryl Streep and Vanessa Williams.
