Finger Lakes Land TrustIthaca, NY—The Finger Lakes Land Trust today announced it has acquired 80 wooded acres off Eastman Hill Road, just south of Ithaca in the town of Danby, Tompkins County. The property borders Danby State Forest and is also adjacent to private property protected by a Land Trust conservation easement and two parcels of land previously acquired by the organization. Taken together, the Land Trust has protected 500 acres in this area.

The new acquisition is located within a habitat linkage zone identified by New York State and includes headwater wetlands and seasonal streams that drain to Catatonk Creek, a classified trout stream and tributary of the Susquehanna River.

Art with Heart and Hope, now in its second year, is an exhibition celebrating the herapeutic power of art for those living with medical conditions and caregivers. 

On Saturday, May 30th at 8 pm EST, you can attend the show from the comfort of your home by watching it live online from Caffè Lena's YouTube channel. The experience is free to enjoy and leaves an impression on all.

Jamestown,  NY – May 8, 2020 -- The National Comedy Center, the nation’s official cultural institution and non-profit museum dedicated to comedy, and home to the George Carlin Archives, announced today that it will present an all-star tribute to comedy legend George Carlin, in support of the Center’s educational and preservation initiatives during the museum’s temporary closure.

To be streamed on his 83rd birthday, Tuesday, May 12, “Laughing Matters: Carlin’s Legacy” will celebrate the comedian’s life, career and legacy and is presented by the National Comedy Center as the first in its new “Laughing Matters” series streaming on its new online content platform, National Comedy Center Anywhere at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT.

(May 8, 2020) – GCV&M is excited to share that we have raised nearly one-fourth of our $100,000 goal as part of our Keep History Alive! matching give campaign. The fund appeal, launched by a group of our Board and Founding Circle members who have pledged to match each dollar the Museum raises up to $50,000, runs through June 15. All unrestricted donations and memberships during that time will be doubled to benefit the programs, staff, and collections of the Museum, in a community-based effort to offset the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic. Donations will be accepted through the Museum’s website, gcv.org.

North Country Chamber of Commerce ROOSTThe North Country Chamber of Commerce and ROOST (Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism) have announced the endorsement of one another's plans to assist with recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

ROOST recently released its "Adirondack Tourism Strategy: Pathway Forward,” outlining strategies and approaches to transform the way it markets the northern Adirondack region as the state begins to move toward eventual economic reopening, including resumed travel activity. 

NYS Brewers Association36 Awards Presented by New York State Brewers Association in Virtual Awards Ceremony

Rochester, N.Y. - The New York State Brewers Association (NYSBA) announced the winners of its fourth annual New York State Craft Beer Competition. The awards ceremony took place virtually on Thursday, May 7 at 7:00 p.m. with over 130 breweries in attendance. It was also live streamed on Facebook and YouTube to an additional 350+ viewers.

Thirty-six awards were presented across 12 categories and the best of show award. The Governor's Craft Beer Cup given to the best of show beer was awarded to Big aLICe Brewing Co. for The Many Lives of Our Lives in the Fruit and Spice Beer - sour category.

Finger Lakes Wine AllianceGeneva, N.Y. (May 7) – The Finger Lakes Wine Alliance is excited to announce their launch of Virtual Riesling Camp. The four-part series occurs each Wednesday in May and involves trade representatives from around the U.S., including restaurant managers, professional chefs, retail store managers, sommeliers, consultants, wine educators, a wine TV host, and a well-followed group of wine writers. Participants receive wine to sip while they learn about the Finger Lakes.
