Columbia County, N.Y. – Columbia County Historical Society (CCHS) has announced its participation in the ninth annual Blue Star Museums, a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 2,000 museums across America to offer free admission to the nation’s active duty military personnel and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Dutchess County Tourism logoPoughkeepsie, N.Y. – The Special Olympics New York Summer Games will be hosted in Dutchess County from June 14-16, 2019 and on June 19-21, 2020.  More than 1,700 athletes and coaches will travel from around New York State to Vassar College and Dutchess Community College, as well as other locations throughout the county, to compete in a variety of sports.

Walkway Over the Hudson logoRegistrations now open for Walkway members and general public for July, 4th 2018 event  

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – The Walkway organization will once again offer the public an opportunity to view of the City of Poughkeepsie’s annual fireworks display from Walkway Over the Hudson State Park on the Fourth of July. 

“Watching fireworks from the Walkway is a unique patriotic experience!” said Walkway Executive Director Elizabeth Waldstein-Hart. “This event has become an annual tradition for many Hudson Valley residents—a way to celebrate Independence Day, joining with family, friends and the community.” 

Tupper Lake Tinman TriathlonTupper Lake, N.Y. -  On Saturday, June 23, the Tupper Lake Tinman Triathlon will commence for the 36th time. 

The most noticeable change since the first race is the number of competitors, people who are looking for a hardcore race with a small town feel in a beautiful setting. To date, 501 people have registered for this year's race, with plenty of time to sign up. The 2017 race drew 633 competitors, and the 2016 iteration saw 538, compared with 390 entrants in 2015, and 375 in 2014.

2018 Skaneateles Boat ShowSkaneateles, N.Y. – The Skaneateles Antique and Classic Boat Show—an event 40 years in the making—returns July 27-29, featuring mesmerizing boats from the early 1900s to the present, along with family entertainment. Hours are 3 p.m. to dusk Friday, 9 a.m. to dusk Saturday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday in Clift Park. Admission is free.

gem miningEllicottville, N.Y. – Holiday Valley is adding a new attraction to Sky High Adventure Park, the Mister Happy Gem Mining Company.  Targeted to children as young as 2, the experience mimics old fashioned panning for gold. Each miner purchases a bag of sand that contains either gems or fossils.  The contents of the bag are dumped into a mining pan.  The “miners” wash the sand away with water that flows through a 65 foot long sluice and the treasures are left in the pan.  An identification card is included for children to learn more about their gems or fossils.

National Racing Museum and Hall of FameSaratoga Springs, N.Y. – Renowned equine artist Greg Montgomery, who has been producing artwork associated with Saratoga Race Course’s famed Travers Stakes since 1986, will unveil the 33rd edition of his annual Travers poster series at the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame on Thursday, June 14 at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Posters will be available for purchase and will be signed by Montgomery.
