Hanford Mills MuseumVisitors can call ahead to reserve a guided tour of the water-powered sawmill, gristmill, and woodworking shop

East Meredith, NY – Beginning August 12, Hanford Mills Museum will be open for guided tours of its water-powered sawmill, gristmill, and woodworking shop. Tours will be offered Wednesdays through Sundays and feature demonstrations of the 1926 Fitz overshot waterwheel and water-powered machines operating just as they did a century ago. To promote social distancing, reservations are required and only one party will tour the Mill at a time. To schedule a tour, call 607/278-5744.

Astoria, New York, July 23, 2020 — Beginning August 5, 2020, Museum of the Moving Image is pleased to present Bound Unbound: Four by Mehrdad Oskouei, films by the esteemed Iranian documentarian who has spent twelve years exploring the lives of women and children in detention centers near Tehran. The series is anchored by Sunless Shadows, Oskouei’s latest film, for which he was awarded Best Director at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam in 2019. Punctuated by deeply confessional monologues, the film offers a window into the lives of women and girls imprisoned for the murder of a male family member. Sunless Shadows is a Cinema Guild release. View trailer.

Saratoga Springs, NY (July 22, 2020) – Saratoga Performing Arts Center announces that "Caffè Lena @ SPACwill return to premiere a special, limited screening of 'Mavis 80, A Newport Folk Revival' on the SPAC Grounds on July 31 at 8 p.m. The broadcast, which was previously recorded live in Los Angeles at The Theatre At Ace Hotel on May 22, 2019, is exclusive to Newport Folk Festival and "Caffe Lena @ SPAC." The SPAC lawn is the only place where the concert will be streamed in person, with a limited capacity of only 50 people, and with carefully mapped out, socially-distanced seating and rigorous COVID protocols.

In response to increased litter left behind by visitors to New York’s natural areas, the State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) today released a new PSA to remind outdoor adventurers to follow the principles of Leave No Trace. The PSA features images of trash in the Catskills and the Adirondacks with a reminder that litter is not only unsightly, but can be deadly to New York’s wildlife.
