1914 KayakSyracuse, N.Y. (August 30, 2017) - The Great New York State Fair, New York Sea Grant and the H. Lee White Maritime Museum of Oswego will celebrate the first boat launch into the Fair Pond on Thursday, August 31 at 11:30 am at the west end of State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, NY.

Immediately after the launch on Thursday, New York Sea Grant and US Coast Guard Auxiliary personnel will present an on-water education demonstration aboard a stand-up paddleboard and in a kayak on how to identify and use approved life jackets.

Pittsford, N.Y. – As Americans get ready to hit the road for Labor Day, the Finger Lakes Vacation region releases 2016 economic impact results. Visitor spending in the Finger Lakes Vacation region grew by 2.1% in 2016 to a total of $3 billion, which supported 59,236 jobs across 14 counties - including big cities like Rochester and Syracuse, N.Y. with direct and indirect labor income totaling nearly $1.5 billion dollars and representing 6.5% of the total labor income for the region.

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced the opening of three more parking areas to provide shuttle service to the Great New York State Fair. The four parking lots, at John Glenn Blvd. and Farrell Rd. near I-690, the Regional Market in Liverpool and at Syracuse's Hancock International Airport in Salina, will provide approximately 2,500 more parking spaces as the Fair heads into what is traditionally its period of largest attendance.

This is the first agreement of its kind NYC & Company has signed with a destination marketing organization on the African continent. NYC & Company President and CEO Fred Dixon and Cape Town Tourism’s CEO Enver Duminy were on hand to sign the tourism partnership agreement this afternoon in New York City. The two-year alliance includes a collaboration agreement between the two destination marketing organizations, the sharing of best practices in tourism marketing and the exchange of marketing assets to boost reciprocal travel.

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. (August 22, 2017) — On September 2, States of Incarceration, the first national traveling multimedia exhibition and coordinated public dialogue to explore the history and future of mass incarceration in the United States, opens at the Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College. Skidmore partnered with the Humanities Action Lab, a coalition of 20 university and college public history and documentary studies programs affiliated with the New School, and worked with over 500 students and formerly incarcerated individuals across the U.S. to create the traveling exhibition, which launched in New York City in April 2016.
