Syracuse - Do Your ThingSyracuse (August 21, 2018) -- Onondaga County visitors spent approximately $865 million locally in 2017, according to a Tourism Economics report released by New York State. The report highlights tourism trends throughout the state and each of its regions, including the 14-county Finger Lakes vacation region. 

“The numbers show that our local tourism industry is stable,” said Visit Syracuse President Danny Liedka. “We are focused on doing our part to help these numbers climb, and to show that Onondaga County is a first class destination.”…

Those who submit Name-That-Boat entries at the new "Path Through Maritime History: NY Lighthouses and Lifesaving" exhibit will also have the opportunity to win a daily prize of a family pass to the H. Lee White Maritime Museum at Oswego, NY.

The Fair runs from August 22 through Labor Day September 3, 2018.

(August 22, 2018) — The Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College announces its fall exhibitions and events. From the groundbreaking work of the Chicago Imagists to the latest by artist, musician, and writer Tim Davis, the Tang’s fall programming features influential artists and artworks, talks on today’s most urgent issues, screenings of experimental films, tours, dance, concerts, and more.

Highlights include:

  • 3-D Doings: The Imagist Object in Chicago Art, 1964–198, the first exhibition devoted to the three-dimensional work of the Chicago Imagists.

Albany Pine Bush logoAlbany, N.Y. – The Karner Kids Film Festival will take place on Wednesday August 29, 2018 at 6:30pm at the Albany Pine Bush Discover Center. “Join us to see some amazingly creative Pine Bush films made by young people,” said Education Program Manager, Sara Poggi-Decker. The Karner Kids Film Festival features Pine Bush-themed films made by kids ages 10-17. The films are original creations of 5 minutes or less and all feature the Pine Bush.

Joseph Lin- photo by Koichi MiuraCooperstown, N.Y. – Violinist Joseph Lin will lead the Cooperstown Summer Music Festival Chamber Ensemble in a performance of four of Bach’s Brandenburg concertos at 7:30pm on Sunday, August 26 at the Otesaga Resort Hotel ballroom.

Mr. Lin, the former first violinist of the Juilliard String Quartet and a musician known for his passionate music-making and dazzling virtuosic skill, delighted Cooperstown audiences with his Vivaldi/Piazzolla Four Seasons performance last season.

ROOST snowmobile surveyIndian Lake, N.Y. - A study conducted jointly by the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism (ROOST) and the Indian Lake Chamber of Commerce confirms that snowmobilers contribute to Hamilton County communities by generating overnight stays at local hotels and motels, and dining in restaurants. 

Of the snowmobilers who completed the survey, more than one-third of them stayed overnight, booking an average of 2.85 nights with an average party size of 4.2 people.

Plattsburgh, N.Y. – The iconic Witherill Hotel, located in downtown Plattsburgh until 1969, was built 150 years ago this year.  Susan Howell Hamlin, daughter of the late William Howell, former owner the Hotel, has compiled images and stories for the release of her book, Welcome to the Witherill: A retrospective on Plattsburgh¹s landmark hotel and the family who owned it.

Working for suffrage throughout her life, Stanton believed “The Solitude of Self” to be one of her greatest achievements. …
